Even though there’s lots of scenic locations within Gauteng to do a photoshoot at… we’ve handpicked a selection of locations based off factors like how photogenic or suitable the location is for a photoshoot, how safe it is (especially when we prefer to play it safe, particularly when our client’s safety and that of our team and our equipment is paramount) yet we also include locations based on popularity with other photographers.
Helderfontein Residential Estate (home base)
Gareth Owen Photography operates from home within Helderfontein Residential Estate, Dainfern near Fourways in Johannesburg.
The Estate is an Eco Estate and is the perfect location for portraits, family portraits and even on-location product photography, thanks the estates dams, wetlands, lots of open spaces and parks, grasslands, wild flowers, rocky ravines and even a few forest like environments – it’s basically a nature lovers paradise.
And due to the estate being fairly large, there’s plenty of scope for a large variety of different photography shoot themes from an urban feel to those with a bush like feel… The estate also has lots of interesting locations which are perfect for use as photographic backdrops.
Helderfontein Residential Estate being a secure estate, has also got a very good reputation for it’s security… which means that shoots we can guarantee our clients a very safe experience during your shoot with us.
The Estate is also known to be a very peaceful and quiet place, which also means that doing a shoot here with us there’s most likely to be no disturbances or interference with our shoot during your visit.
As a resident of this awesome estate, I provide the option to have your session at the estate as my guest.

Modderfontein Nature Reserve
Modderfontein Village was established in 1894 to meet the needs of the growing gold mining industry, with the advent of underground mining there was a need to manufacture and sell dynamite.
Today the area is a private open space and nature reserve, providing an ideal location for nature and outdoor sessions,

Studio Style Shoots at your home or office:
One of our photoshoot options we offer is bringing the studio to your home or office, which is ideal for corporate headshots, portraits and family portraits.
This includes:
- A White or Grey Backdrop on stand
- Off Camera Lighting
- A reflector
However note that travel costs apply and are charged separately to that of my shoot packages.
Shoot Location, Terms and Conditions:
- Traveling Fees are not included with my photography package prices and are listed relevant to the shoot location
- Session length is also affected by traveling time, should it take an hour to get the location, it would require at least 2 – 2 1/2 hours photography to be booked.
- I temporarily rely on the use of Uber to get around… which means that the further away the location is, the more expensive the travelling costs are likely to be.
- Some venues charge a fee to make use of their facilities… we don’t include this fee in our photography packages and is for the clients responsibility to cover
- The locations listed are also deemed to be safe as we place priority on the safety of our clients, our team as well as our gear and reserve the right to shoot at locations deemed to be unsafe.
