About Us…

Hi There!

And Thank you for taking the time to get to know more about us…

Where it all began…

Even though I’ve taken photographs using point and shoot cameras while and even with an old Canon Eos 35mm film camera while growing up… photography was never a serious hobby or interest of mine or that of being a Professional Photographer until around 2013 that “out of the blue’ I found myself having a very strong interest in photography, which led to the idea of doing it professionally.

And during this time… I was given the very same 35mm Film Camera with lenses which I had used a few times as a teenager, that then was owned by my father which at the time was primarily due to my growing interest in photography of which a few months later I managed to purchase my first Canon DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera) which due to the compatibility of both cameras i could use the 35 mm lenses on my new camera too.

This began a journey as a hobbyist photographer… which while living on my parents plot I taught myself to photograph in full manual mode which back then and today one of my big interests is Nature and Wildlife photography of which living on a plot was the perfect practice grounds for this.

In my later years, the interest grew more serious as a Profession and so I’ve have done several courses through The Shaw Academy and Udemy especially when it was the cheapest option and only viable for me.

I today live with my parents at the age of 47 due to that I’ve had a bit of a rough start in life when it comes to careers and worked for a family run business for most of my adult life until I found a hobby related job that resulted in resignation that I could take on this new found career… unfortunately for me, the position i held lasted around a month to which somehow i was setup and let go of. I’m also an owner of a boutique computer business which I’ve been trying to build up… however e-commerce is not an easy industry to break into.

As a photographer I have won the estate’s magazine front cover twice, and have been quite well known locally within the estate for my photography that around 2 – 3 years ago I decided to steer myself toward becoming a Professional Photographer and have been trying to establish Gareth Owen Photography as reputable and trustworthy business venture ever since.

I’m today technically a professional photographer, as I’ve done some paid photography and videography work for a Professional Photographer that’s also a very close family friend.

And that in general I’ve always enjoyed photographing what ever I could find that grabbed my interest and that my photography specialization has also largely been inspired by either other careers like my e-commerce background or that as a young adult i ran a small mobile discotheque which has inspired me to venture into event photography and being family orientated and enjoying meeting new people… it has also inspired me to focus on being a Lifestyle and Portrait Photographer.

I’m extremely friendly, down to earth and highly energetic – don’t be shy… book a session today!

I specialize in…

  • Event Photography
  • Product Photography
  • Lifestyle and Portrait Photography
  • Real Estate Photography

The Gear I use:

As Gareth Owen Photography has only been around for roughly 3 years, our camera equipment is basic despite still being a professional equipment and so I use the following gear within our photoshoots…

1x Nikon D200 with 105mm and 60mm Macro Lenses

2x Off Camera Flash with Umbrellas

However note that most of our outdoor shoots are done using natural light, until such time we’re able to include powerful enough lighting to fill in shadows.

For Real Estate Shoots we hire a 24-70mm wide angle lens to capture in tight spaces

For those wanting much higher resolution images or more of a studio like feel to your images, this can be catered to… however please note that this option is provided as an additional option hence that it involves hiring extra equipment.

I am though planning to start a fundraising shoot campaign to upgrade my gear… and anyone is welcome to get involved and support this initiative. Visit the page here if you’re able or would like to get involved.
